Do you know how certain foods react in your body? Most people today are not aware that the amount of sugar they eat is impacting their metabolism in such a way that it is sending them down the road to diabetes.  A new study from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that the number of Americans with diabetes continues to rise, with 12% of adults estimated to have the disease, and more than a third of those 20 and over now thought to have pre-diabetes.  Now is the time to check out our own bodies, help those we love, and get our sugar intake under control!

There is a way to measure your blood glucose, which you can do easily at home. I can teach you how to test yourself, and you can then check your family. The blood work you get from a blood draw at the doctor’s lab is helpful, but it won’t tell you the specific foods your particular body needs to avoid. You can test any food you’re suspicious is causing a sugar spike, which can lead to hunger and cravings, but worse:  insulin resistance. Insulin resistance boosts your chances for liver and heart disease and potentially lead to prediabetes and diabetes.

I’ll never forget testing myself with a home kit, to find out that my blood glucose was too high after only eating a half a grapefruit,! You would think it was the friendliest, most low-sugar of all the fruits! I knew I was a potential candidate for diabetes and began cutting out all sugar from my diet until I got control of my sugar intake and corresponding bloodwork.

You can do simple tests at home to determine your blood glucose levels. I can teach you, and give you the forms to chart your progress.

I have a list of 26 reasons why you need to remove sugar from your diet, completely if possible. Where does sugar lurk? It’s in things you wouldn’t believe hide the dangerous stuff, and often with names you wouldn’t recognize as a form of sugar! If you like, and we live close enough, I can come to your house and help you weed out the dangerous products that have sneaked into your pantry, fridge, and freezer. (I know; you didn’t do it!!)

I will also give you a list of the sugars that go by many other names, so you can be sure to keep a wary eye out when shopping at the grocery store, and yes, even the health food store!
